Your brain is lying to you at 2am

Posted 22/4/2026

At 2 AM, an ice machine transforms from a humble kitchen appliance into what your sleep-deprived brain genuinely believes is a 400-pound creature clawing its way out of the freezer wall.

This is not a you problem. This is science. Well, sort of. It is mostly just what happens when your brain has been running on fumes since noon and has completely lost the ability to process normal household sounds like a reasonable adult.

During the day, that same ice machine drops a handful of cubes and you do not even flinch. You are calm, collected, mildly functional. But strip away eight hours of daylight and three cups of coffee and suddenly every clunk, groan, and rattle in the house becomes a legitimate threat assessment. Your brain skips right past "appliance cycle" and lands directly on "ancient freezer beast, definitely hostile, absolutely here for me specifically."

The real twist is that the fix is embarrassingly simple. Coffee. Morning comes, caffeine arrives, and your threat detection system gets a full reboot. That same noise that had you gripping your pillow like a life raft is now just Tuesday. Nothing changed except the coffee showed up and your brain remembered how to be a person again.

There is something beautiful about a drink that can single-handedly restore your grip on reality and remind you that the freezer is not, in fact, haunted.

In their own words: “Our team consists of dedicated folks who genuinely love what they do. And how the coffee is cared for speaks volumes: from thoughtful sourcing of green beans and sharing farmer's stories to our approach to roasting and brewing. Every step of the way is woven by the same thread of enormous respect for quality, people and their skills.

The name Ethica is inspired by Spinoza's Ethica Ordine Geometrico Demonstrata. The philosopher explores our place in the grand scheme of things, and how we can attain inner freedom and happiness by aligning our actions with reason and virtue.”

Caffeinated and slightly more rational than last night
