Your brain is lying to you in the shower

Posted 9/6/2026

Your best ideas don't happen in the shower because water is magical. They happen because your brain is running on fumes, desperately clawing at the walls of your skull, trying to think with whatever tiny scrap of energy it scraped together before you had your first cup.

That's it. That's the whole mystery.

The shower is just the first quiet moment your brain gets all day. No notifications. No emails. No one asking where you put the thing. Just you, some steam, and a brain that finally has enough silence to string two thoughts together. It's not creativity. It's your mind doing its best impression of creativity while running on empty.

Which is kind of sad when you think about it.

Those shower thoughts? They're half-baked. You get the idea, you feel like a genius, and then you dry off and completely forget it or realize it made no sense. That's because inspiration without fuel is just a really good feeling that goes nowhere.

Coffee is the second half of that equation. It's what takes the foggy little spark your brain cooked up in the shower and actually does something with it. Suddenly you're not just having ideas, you're writing them down, building on them, and following through. The shower gets the credit. Coffee does the work.
